Our Impact

We have been running a successful day centre since 1990. In that time, we have pioneered new and innovative ways to meet our clients’ needs, placing them at the heart of the work that we do, to empower them to make the necessary changes within their lives. Being fully inclusive, we can reach a variety of vulnerable people in a way which other agencies are not able to do in the same way. This also means we can engage with hard-to-reach clients as well as being able to have no time limits on the work that we do therefore developing trusting relationships with some of the most entrenched rough sleepers.

Outcomes

There’s been an increase in recent times with the number of people attending our centre not yet homeless but at risk of eviction. This is reflected in a rise in our attendances, which until May 2022 averaged 80 individuals a month, but since then has consistently shown 100 individuals a month.

In 2022, we had 3,708 overall attendances at Spires, a 40% increase from the year before.

In 2022, we had 200 sessions with over 400 service users accessing our daycentre space (3730 attendances). The outcomes for the year are as follows:

 • 404 people were provided with indepth keyworker support

• 102 people were supported into safe and suitable accommodation

• 67 people were supported to avoid eviction

• 146 people visited our onsite nurse

 • 35 people were helped to register with a GP

• 11 TB van attendances and 3 people were given a diagnosis of T.B after using this service.

• 30 Attendances for Hep C test and trace and 9 Attendances on the Hep C van.

• 25 people were supported to attend a medical appointment, or an ambulance called on their behalf.

Community impact

Spires creates a welcoming and safe environment for all and we pride ourselves on being the first point of call for many people in need of support. Through supporting people to exit homelessness we see ourselves as a community resource. Our work both supports individuals in their time of need and reduces the number of people sleeping out in the community.

“Spires staff work effortlessly to produce outstanding results for the homeless in our community, providing appropriate support according to each persons’ individual needs. They offer a connection and pathway for the homeless in the community, ensuring they receive the best care possible" Community Support Officer, August 2022
