“I love volunteering at Spires. It's an incredibly fulfilling experience. I feel so valued and supported as a volunteer and feel like it's fantastic working with this team".
Volunteering roles
Centre Volunteer
Volunteers are needed during our breakfast sessions to provide help to our support workers. Roles may vary but tasks will typically be a mixture of:
Helping serve food & drinks during breakfast
Helping in the kitchen, preparing meals and washing up
Helping our staff sort collections & donations
OUTREACH VOLUNTEER (WOMEN ONLY)
Spires outreach service is carried out in the Spires vehicle around Lambeth on Monday, Thursday and Friday nights at 9:30pm – 1:30am & Monday mornings at 5am-8am.
Outreach volunteering will be a mixture of:
Befriending and listening to women
Providing information and advice
Distributing health & safety kits
All volunteers interested in outreach work must first undergo health & safety training from our team and shadow a few shifts before they and the team are confident they’re ready to volunteer on outreach.
Why volunteer?
Volunteering your time to support Spires will hugely help the lives of people experiencing homelessness. Not only will you make a significant contribution towards supporting our staff, but you’ll also develop important skills and experience learning off our team of staff in a positive and supportive environment. You’ll socialise and mix with like-minded colleagues and fellow volunteers. You also have the freedom to choose which days and how many hours you would like to volunteer for. We request a minimum of 4 hours a month of volunteering, either at our centre or on outreach.*
You could use a volunteering opportunity to build useful skills to take forward with you. Whether this be social skills, building teamwork or simply want to gain experience working for a charity, our team will always be on hand to help you with whatever you're looking to achieve and will make sure you have an enjoyable experience in volunteering.
