World Homeless & World Mental Health Day

The 10th October marks World Homeless & World Mental Health Day. A day to recognise a collective commitment to supporting those experiencing homelessness and in working to reduce homelessness. It is also a day to recognise and raise awareness about the number of people experiencing mental health issues.

There have been 4,169 overall attendances at Spires so far this year from 636 different people coming through our doors across all our services. While we are thrilled to have supported this many people across different sites, it has been widely reported this year about how homelessness remains on the rise in London.

Did you know that 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem at some point in their lives (Mind). There is a strong cycle between homelessness and poor mental health, with poor mental health being both a cause and a result of homelessness. 88 clients this year have expressed to Spires how they are struggling with their mental health. 24 of which have then been engaged with the local mental health team who attend our services to improve their mental wellbeing.

We hosted an event today in partnership with The Lunch Club Streatham to welcome clients and share information about what to do if they’re struggling with their mental health.
